We built the thing we couldn’t find anywhere.

Between the two of us, we have lived in and travelled through more countries than we can count. We both went abroad for school, then again for university, then moved for work, which meant visas, insurance, registrations, and a different set of rules every time. We did all of this on our own at first. Now we do it with families and four-legged friends.

And still, we kept getting caught. A passport renewal that surfaced six weeks too late. An insurance policy that quietly renewed at a worse rate. A school enrolment deadline discovered in a newsletter, three days before it closed. Each time, the information existed somewhere: a drawer, an inbox, one person’s memory. The system failed anyway, because a drawer does not send reminders and memory does not scale to a family.

What changed for us was the realisation that once you have someone else to worry about, you want things in order. On your own, disorder is survivable. You pay the late fee, you queue at the counter again, you move on. With a family, the same gap lands on someone else. A child’s residency that depends on your permit. A partner who would not know where to look. Dependants make the responsibility concrete in a way nothing else does.

We looked for the tool that should exist. Password managers hold secrets but do not understand them. Cloud drives hold documents but do not read them. To-do apps hold deadlines but only the ones you remember to type in. None of them know where you live. None of them know that holding one citizenship while living somewhere else creates obligations in both places, or what a family in your particular position is supposed to have in order. Nothing connected the document to the deadline to the person to the country, and kept that connection alive.

So we built Rebase: a virtual family office for people who are never going to hire one. Families with enough at stake have always had someone holding this for them, a lawyer, an accountant, or the one person who knows where everything is. Rebase does that work. It reads what you file, understands what it means in the countries you are tied to, tracks what it creates, and keeps an emergency binder current without being asked. It is the infrastructure we needed and could not buy.
